For My Fellow Book Worms

I love to read.  I don't get to as much as I would like though because of all of the other responsibilities that occupy my time.  When I do read I usually become engrossed in the book to the point where its all I can think about even after I've finished it.  The problem with this is, I always have a hard time picking up another book because I feel that it would live up to the last one- luckily I am usually wrong. Also, if you are like me and prefer to buy your books rather than rent them, starting a new book is even harder because you don't want to waste money on a book you won't love. Because of this, I decided to provide you with a set of book reviews from my 3 absolute favorite books.  More to come when I have more time :)

Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen
For one, its a classic.  There is a reason a book sticks around so long.  It is a complex book set in a simple time with a deep meaning. Its beautiful.  You have to be patient to get through it because of its old vocabulary and language but trust me it is worth the time.  If you love old, meaningful, and beautiful things, this is a book for you. I also found that watching the movie helps me to understand the book much better because of how different the language is- sometimes its hard to get the full picture when your so busy decoding the wording.
Summary of the Book

Room- Emma Donoghue
I could not put this book down.  It is the story told by a 5 year old boy who was raised in captivity.  If you have heard of the Jaycee Dugard kidnapping that was recently solved, it is much like that.  The boy's mother was captured at the age of 19 and was forced to live in a shed in her captors back yard. She bore a son, who's father was the captor.  The mother does not want her son to find out that they are living in a secret prison so she does everything she can to be sure that her son has a 'normal life' in the 12 x 12 shed.  It was an amazing story of a mother and son bond and their journey to freedom.  I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It was truly amazing.  Below is the book's website which includes a visual of 'Room' (the shed) and a detailed summary of the book.  http://www.roomthebook.com/

The Freedom Writers Diary - Erin Gruwell
This is a true story and if you have seen the movie, trust me, it doesn't give it justice. It uses the real diary entries from these students. This book addresses the issues of hate and racism and turns them into support and love.   It is the story of one teacher using 150 to change the world.  This book literally changed my life.  It changed the way I used the word hate and it changed the way that I view every single individual that I meet.  Honestly, it should be a requirement that every single person reads this book- I think it could change the world.  The problem is, everyone I have asked to read it, says that it is boring- so I guess its a risk you would have to take.  I would read it a million times over again though- not only for its lesson but simply because it was a well written and intriguing story.  As a future teacher, it sets a high standard for the person I would like to become.   It's an amazing and triumphant story of heroism within students who were not even supposed to make it to their graduation.
